The cross was a transaction between the Father and the Son

The cross, and it’s meaning is a transaction between the Father and the Son. We were not a party to the transaction, but we are the object of it.

It is about the promises made by the Father to the Son.

It is about the covenant, the new and the everlasting covenant.

Every covenant has a promise. The cross is about the promises made to the Son.

Galatians 3:15 “Now to Abraham AND HIS SEED WERE THE PROMISES MADE. He does not say “and to seeds” as of many, but AS OF ONE, “and to your Seed”, WHO IS CHRIST”.

V17, the Mosaic does not annul this !. It’s confirmed with an oath.

It’s in the Davidic covenant too…Psalm 110 “the Lord said unto my Lord….rule in the midst of your enemies”.

The priesthood that serves us, and The Godhead to make sure this is being carried out is the Melchizedec priesthood. v4 “you are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedec”. He is a compassionate High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-16, 5:2). In fact, He is king of righteousness and. King of peace.(Hebrews 7:2). We are talking about a person involved in the transaction at the cross !. Jesus !.

Security, significance, love, acceptance, assurance, commitment, are all ours at the cross.

Hence that Ephesians scripture after the mystery, “in the fulness of time, He might gather together in one all things in Christ”. It’s about the redemption of all things being bought to Himself.

It goes beyond the new covenant which is regeneration. We could not be re-gened in the old covenants

Human nature and divine nature are bought together in Christ.

Now we don’t want to belittle the wonderful truths that the cross was about Gods love to me.

Romans 5:8 “but God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us”.

Nor about forgiveness of sin etc. These are very important truths.

In fact, these things show the centrality of the cross in our existence.

But the priority is the transaction between Father and Son.

But it doesn’t stop there, because the covenant is sealed by the Holy Spirit !.

Promises – made to Abraham
Sacrifice – THE CROSS
Seal – Holy Spirit.

Trinity !.

We are not a party to the transaction, but we are the object of it. Nothing to do with me. I don’t influence the promise one iota. Nothing I do, or don’t do affects it. As Billy Wallace said…FREEDOM !.

All for us. The Trinity moved heaven and earth for us. The Trinity changed His whole life, focus and being just for us. Truly, it’s about about Him !.

Surely this helps us with our focus problem. The more we see this, the easier it is to focus, to worship, to love, to say “I delight to do your will oh Lord”.

Note: in the Davidic covenant it says – “I will be his father, he shall be my son, I will build the house.”. What is true of Jesus becomes true of me !.

Galatians 3:28 “and if you are Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise”.

We are not parties to the transaction, but we are the object of it !. So our righteousness, our future, our identity has nothing to do with me, or my behaviour, or whether I live up to any standard, my performance etc.

The promises are ours from the Father, purchased in blood by The Son, revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. My behaviour has nothing to do with the transaction.
